Hackers use the Fear of the NSO group to install Malware

Writer's picture: Rajesh KanungoRajesh Kanungo

Hackers created Malware masquerading as a prophylactic for the NSO group's Pegasus software. They even posted it on a site looking like Amnesty International's website. If you remember, Pegasus is a software that is used to spy on journalists, opposition, and other benign figures.

A refresher on NSO/Pegasus:

  1. Sold ostensibly to customers who are law-abiding agencies

  2. Used by authoritarian regimes to spy on news-paper-reporters, opposition, environmentalists, etc.

  3. May have led to the imprisonment and/or death of their targets.
